Historical Background
The first recordings about the Chamber of Industry and Trade in Wrocław date back to 1849. It was a time when Theodor Molinari was chosen the first President of die Handelskammer in Breslau. He did his duty till 1861 in the registered office in 15, Krupnicza Street (at present it is the building of Gwardia Sports Club).
In 1945, Jan Blum became the head of the Chamber. He was authorised by Hilary Minc, the Minister of Industry and Trade, as well as the Chambers of Industry and Trade in Kraków, Katowice and Rzeszów. The Chamber had its office in a renovated building in 34, Kościuszki Street, Wrocław.
However, in 1952 the Chamber of Industry and Trade was closed down, and it took 37 years to set it up again.
The chamber was registered at the Economy Court in 1990. At that time it was called the Lower-Silesian Chamber of Industry and Trade, and it had 123 member companies, which represented all important branches of industry such as for instance trade, service, or tourism.
The 1st General Meeting of the Members, which is the most important organ of the Chamber, took place on 12th of July 1990. The participants elected the board, the major organ of the Chamber in the period between the general meetings, and the presiding officers.
In October 1990, the Lower-Silesian Chamber of Industry and Trade became a member of the National Chamber of Commerce in Warsaw.
In June 1992, a group of businessmen, which were not members of the Lower-Silesian Chamber of Industry and Trade, suggested establishing the Lower-Silesian Chamber of Commerce. The Meeting passed the constitution and elected the board, consisting of 9 persons, and the board of directors (5 persons).
Next general meetings of both the Lower-Silesian Chamber of Industry and Trade and the Lower-Silesian Chamber of Commerce in June 1993 showed that the institutions are ready for a merger. The Lower-Silesian Chamber of Commerce was liquidated at the 2nd General Meeting, and the Lower-Silesian Chamber of Trade was set up to take its place. Next, the 4th General Meeting of the Lower-Silesian Chamber of Trade passed a merger of the two Chambers. Since that moment the institution has been called the Lower-Silesian Chamber of Commerce.
The Lower-Silesian Chamber of Commerce has a legal status, and it functions in accordance with the Statute, as well as the Chamber of Commerce Act, passed on 30th of May 1989 (Legal Acts Journal no. 35, entry 195).
